Stephanie’s going for beauty glory

Toryglen woman’s first pageant

- Jonathan Geddes

A Toryglen woman is hoping for some model behaviour - as she enters her first beauty pageant.

Stephanie Donovan, of Ardnahoe Avenue, will take part in the UK Power Pageant 2016 Grand Final on July 10 in Lancashire.

The 23- year- old former Stonelaw High pupil, who works at the King’s Park Hotel, applied for the contest after always being interested in modelling.

And now she’ll be one of the models representing Scotland at the contest, with possible trips to Las Vegas, South Africa or Japan lined up if she wins.

She said: “I’ve always been interested in modelling, so I sent my application and a photo off to Power Pageant and they got back straight away to say they wanted me in the final.

“I was like ‘ wow, what’s happening ‘– I’d never even done a pageant before and they were saying they wanted me there as Miss Glasgow. “It’s been crazy but really good. “Basically every girl who takes part has four different chances of winning, as there’s four different categories.”

However Stephanie admits she will be feeling a few butterflies on the night itself, especially as she has never taken part in anything like this before.

She added: “I’m going down on the Friday and on the Saturday we do the registration and have interviews with the judges.

“Then the show itself is Sunday evening – I’m just really excited because I’ve never done anything like this before, so I’m buzzing.

“I’ll definitely be nervous on the night of the show, though– there’s two rounds, an evening dress round and a swimwear round, and obviously I’ve never done anything like this before and now I need to get my kit off to walk down a catwalk in front of loads of people!

“So that’s nerve-wracking, but it’ll be an amazing opportunity.”

Stephanie, who’s lived in Toryglen all her life, is now hoping that success in the pageant could lead to further modelling offers down the line.

If she wins one of the four titles on offer, like Miss Intercontinental, then she would travel further afield to other pageants.

Closer to home is a fundraising 5K run she is taking part in for the Christie Charity, who support patients with cancer.

And she has been given loads of support from her friends and colleagues.

She said: “All my work colleagues are really behind me – they’ve been supporting me and sponsoring me, and so have my friends and family.

“Everyone’s been really supportive, especially my mum and my boyfriend – he’s always saying things like ‘go get em babe!’”
