Sum­mer­fest set to be top of the pops

Event is Mixed up to take it in One Di­rec­tion

Sum­mer­fest will be top of the pops this Satur­day with mu­sic by two of the UK’s big­gest bands set to en­ter­tain the crowd.

Or­gan­is­ers re­vealed this week that trib­ute acts to One Di­rec­tion and Lit­tle Mix will rock the main stage on Satur­day.

Res­i­dents will be able to dance along to hits such as Best Song Ever, His­tory, Black Magic and Hair.

Also pay­ing a visit will be the Robert the Bruce So­ci­ety who will be dressed as knights from the Bruce’s time.

Other new edi­tions in­clude a chil­dren’s cor­ner with games and a co­conut shy.

Sum­mer­fest com­mit­tee chair­man, John Edgar said: “We wanted some­thing a lit­tle dif­fer­ent this year so we’ve mixed it up a bit.

“We’re look­ing for­ward to it and we’re hope­ful of a re­ally good turnout be­cause we have got some re­ally good acts this year.

“Hope­fully the younger ones come out and fin­gers crossed the weather is good.”

Early weather re­ports sug­gest a de­cent day, with sunny spells and highs of 19 de­grees, how­ever that could change.

Nine com­mu­nity awards will be dished out on the day. The full sched­ule is: 10am - Bushido Karate 10.15am - Pauline Grant 11am - Quick­sil­ver Line Dancers 11.30am - MG Dancers 12.10pm - Open­ing cer­e­mony and com­mu­nity awards 12.30pm - Sharon Nimmo 1.15pm - One Di­rec­tion trib­ute 2.10pm - Lit­tle Mix trib­ute 2.40pm - Stephen Grassie and Scott Wal­lace 3.40pm - Dance Elite 4.30pm - Chris­tine Zumba Dance. John added: “Our thanks go to Mor­risons, Cam­bus­lang, for al­low­ing us to do bag pack­ing to raise funds last week­end. We raised £400.”

As ever, mo­torists are be­ing told to plan ahead with the Main Street closed for the event.

Cam­bus­lang Main Street will be closed be­tween Green­lees Road and Bridge Street from 6am un­til 8pm on the day.

Driv­ers are be­ing urged to use Cly­de­ford Road and Bridge Street as a di­ver­sion.
