- Douglas Dickie

Summerfest will be top of the pops this Saturday with music by two of the UK’s biggest bands set to entertain the crowd.

Organisers revealed this week that tribute acts to One Direction and Little Mix will rock the main stage on Saturday.

Residents will be able to dance along to hits such as Best Song Ever, History, Black Magic and Hair.

Also paying a visit will be the Robert the Bruce Society who will be dressed as knights from the Bruce’s time.

Other new editions include a children’s corner with games and a coconut shy.

Summerfest committee chairman, John Edgar said: “We wanted something a little different this year so we’ve mixed it up a bit.

“We’re looking forward to it and we’re hopeful of a really good turnout because we have got some really good acts this year.

“Hopefully the younger ones come out and fingers crossed the weather is good.”

Early weather reports suggest a decent day, with sunny spells and highs of 19 degrees, however that could change.

Nine community awards will be dished out on the day. The full schedule is: 10am - Bushido Karate 10.15am - Pauline Grant 11am - Quicksilver Line Dancers 11.30am - MG Dancers 12.10pm - Opening ceremony and community awards 12.30pm - Sharon Nimmo 1.15pm - One Direction tribute 2.10pm - Little Mix tribute 2.40pm - Stephen Grassie and Scott Wallace 3.40pm - Dance Elite 4.30pm - Christine Zumba Dance. John added: “Our thanks go to Morrisons, Cambuslang, for allowing us to do bag packing to raise funds last weekend. We raised £400.”

As ever, motorists are being told to plan ahead with the Main Street closed for the event.

Cambuslang Main Street will be closed between Greenlees Road and Bridge Street from 6am until 8pm on the day.

Drivers are being urged to use Clydeford Road and Bridge Street as a diversion.
