It’s a hard knock life, but show’s a cracker
West Coats Primary pupils were bursting into song recently as they performed a classic musical.
The school’s Musical Theatre Club sang tunes like Tomorrow and It’s The Hard Knock Life as they performed Annie to a warm reception from friends and family.
The classic Broadway show is about 11-year-old Annie, who’s stuck in an orphanage run by the horrible Miss Hannigan and is trying to find her parents.
And the West Coats kids brought the show to the stage in style, performing on two nights.
Depute Head Teacher Jacqueline McInnes felt the show was a triumph.
She said: “Our Musical Theatre Club runs almost all year and was especially well attended this session which allowed for a lengthy cast list.
“The children excelled in their roles and we all marvelled at how they could sing, dance and remember all of the words as well as create such a variety of characters.
“The club is run by a number of members of staff – Mrs Telfer, Mrs Jack, Mrs Richardson and Mrs Crozier who all bring their own particular talents to motivate the children when practising.
“One of our ex pupils, Katie Scott, who is now in 4th year at Cathkin High returns every year to help with rehearsals at the after school club.
“The end production is a real team effort with the art work and scenery created by Miss Barrie, our P4 teacher, and finished off by the children of P4 and 5.
“The two evening shows were highly appreciated by the audiences and credit goes to our children for their hard work, commitment and sense of enjoyment that shone throughout their performances.”
