Most new Fernhill homes are allocated
The majority of homes within the new Fernhill social housing development have been allocated, south Lanarkshire Council has confirmed.
The local authority this week said the 70-home estate off Fernhill Road was due to be completed on schedule in early autumn should weather permit.
Families are currently moving into the five houses completed earlier this summer and other successful applicants have been contacted by housing officers with an official offer of housing.
some offers for the final few homes are still being processed.
Daniel Lowe, south Lanarkshire Council’s executive director of housing and technical resources, said:“We are delighted with the progress of the council’s new build housing programme across south Lanarkshire, which will see 70 new homes built within Fernhill.
“The development provides a range of two and three bed semi detached homes, one and two bedroom cottage flats and a number of wheelchair accessible homes, improving the range of homes available in Fernhill to meet housing need now and in the future.
“These new homes, built to the latest energy efficient and varying needs standard, represent another major milestone in the delivery of the Fernhill Masterplan developed in collaboration with the local community .”
The Fernhill site comprises 18 twobedroom and 18 three-bedroom semi-detached homes, 14 two-bedroom flats and 16 one-bedroom flats.
There are also four bungalows specifically designed for tenants with mobility needs.
The council says all properties have been finished to a high standard, including fully fitted kitchens with coordinating floor coverings and bathrooms with floor coverings.
The properties are freshly painted throughout to allow tenants to move in with minimal expense or inconvenience.
An additional rent charge of £10 per week is applied to all new homes to reflect the high quality of facilities and energy efficiency features, the council has said.
