Trinity High’s year in sport
Football – Under 13
More than 60 boys and girls participated in a competitive trial for the first year football team. The selected side played in a highly competitive South Lanarkshire League and featured in the School’s Scottish Cup.
A special mention goes to Joe Campbell, who was captain of the school team, and led by example both on and off the park.
Jared Kennedy and Tommy Wilson also showed outstanding leadership.
Girls’ Football
There has been a positive uptake for girls’football from S1-4 at Trinity. This year the girls have seen off competition from local schools Stonelaw and Cathkin.
Having worked with Active Schools, Trinity hopes to secure a permanent coach for next year to keep the momentum going. A special mention should go to Lucy Ronald who represented the Under 15 Girls Central Scotland Select team as a part of the international selection process. A great achievement for Lucy who is hoping to break in to the international ranks.
Athletics
After a very successful athletics season at school over 50 pupils were chosen to represent Trinity in the South Lanarkshire Track and Field heats and finals at the John Wright Sports Centre, East Kilbride . The selected squad competed in the highly competitive South Lanarkshire event with great success yet again. Over 40 pupils reached the finals of the competition.
The athletes managed to get through the majority of the semi-finals and all athletes produced great performances in the finals. Trinity won a total of nine medals on the day in some high calibre races. Medal winners: Cameron Galloway 1st - Javelin, Lauren McEwan 2nd - 800m, Aidan Wright 1st- 800m (PB), James Hannaway 2nd- 800m, Sayo Olatunji 2nd- Shot Putt, Barry Donahugh 2ndJavelin, Christie Dalgleish 2nd- 1500m, Niamh Riggins 2nd- 1200m, Kiera Watson 2nd- 800m.
Basketball
Thirty pupils participated in Trinity’s basketball club this session. A popular choice with all age groups means that this is the fourth consecutive year of growth. With their inaugural group of competitive players leaving school there has been a change of focus at the club to provide coaching opportunities for pupils in the senior school, particularly the Sports Leader and Duke of Edinburgh candidates.
A special mention went to the school’s Sports Ambassador, Ryan Tennant, who consistently led training sessions for younger pupils and kept motivation and skill levels high.
Dance
The S1-3 dance group worked towards choreographing their own routine for the annual South Lanarkshire Dance Competition in Hamilton Town House. The girls demonstrated excellent leadership skills when preparing their routines and teaching one another the choreography. They composed their own music and created their own costumes for the performance.
