Little black dress will never go out of favour

-

The famous ‘little black dress’ or ‘LBD’ is every woman’s go to outfit, whether it’s a quick fix for a last minute night out or if you simply just don’t know what to wear, the LBD will forever be saving us from outfit disasters.

The little black dress is a historical garment, dating back to the 1900s.

It was originally worn for mourning but after World War I this style was starting to be worn so often it was no longer strange to see.

In 1926 Coco Chanel recreated the little black dress as we know it today. The dress was very simple and short, it was published in Vogue, and it has become one of the most well known styles in history.

The colour black, on men and woman, is the most flattering colour you can wear. It is incredibly slimming and goes well with any skin tone.

It is also a great base colour for an outfit as you can match pretty much any other colour or pattern with it, so whether you want to go all classic in a sixties inspired black and white outfit, head out for dinner in a leopard print jumpsuit or even head out to a rave in a luminous pink tutu, black will always be a great colour to match your garments with.

Now, I totally get that we don’t all like wearing dresses, so I have been looking for some alternatives to the LBD, some go to outfits for a quick fix that you can stock your wardrobe with.

A suit is such a great look for woman and super modern chic. Suits have appeared a lot on the red carpet recently with lots of female celebrities breaking down gender barriers and strutting their stuff in a suit.

It is a great style for ladies for the office or a night out. The classic dark tailored suit will always be a strong style, but you also have the freedom to mix and match garments when wearing a suit.

I have matched plain black cigarette trousers (which are slim leg tailored trousers for anyone unsure of this term) with a black and white dog tooth blazer from H&M creating an eye catching statement look.

My next alternative is the oh-so-1950s inspired look of the pleated midi skirt.

I absolutely love this look, it’s flattering and very comfortable for the warmer weather.

This outfit can be worn dressed up or dressed down, if your heading out match with some heels and a pretty fitted top or if your heading out shopping you can pop on a pair of plimsolls and a t-shirt for a very ‘Grease’ inspired look.
