Overtoun Park

Overtoun Park members had a sunny fun-filled day for their annual 4,3,2,1 tournament on Saturday.

Seven teams took on the challenge of trying to understand the unusual format of the event but the gallant team captains succeeded in making sure everyone played on the correct rink with the right number of bowls - in a mix of singles, pairs, triples and fours games.

After the tea break, and a light bite, everything was a bit clearer and some great bowls were played.

Everyone enjoyed having the opportunity to play in different positions; for some it was encouraging to realise they could skip a team rather than always play lead.

The most important aim of the day, however, was to have fun and as usual, the Overtoun bowlers did just that.

The runners-up were the mischievous Black Gnashers - Tommy Brown, Tommy Macfarlane, George Lappin and Colin Harvie.

Last place went to the persistent Pink Panthers - Hugh Lambie, Eleanor Lappin, John Meikle and Ann Eggie.

The outstanding winners, however, were the laid-back Brown Garfields - Dougie Noddings, Moira McIntyre, Jean Robertson and Jim Eggie.

After a hectic day, the rolls and fritters were greatly appreciated by all.

A great day culminated in the home team of Mick Irvine, Andy Stewart and Michael O’Hagan lifting the trophy after winning their final against Alex Campbell ( Carmyle), Edd and Ricky Johnstone ( both Hillend, Greenock).

On Sunday, the Ladies had the 1+1 competition which unfortunately succumbed to the miserable weather and was abandoned after only a couple of matches being completed.

In the Tuesday night RDBA Triples League, a slight improvement to the otherwise disappointing season saw one win and one loss against Halfway and District.

The Gents Seniors had a mixed Monday morning with a win against East Kilbride and a loss against Blantyre in the District 26 league.

The club would like to remind members of the bowling community that on August 13 the president hosts the club’s annual charity day with all proceeds being donated to Rutherglen Community Carers to support the fantastic work they do in supporting people with dementia.

Finally, Monday nights aggregate was won by John Campbell, Michael Rodgers and Tam McLinden who were 17 shots up.
