New Bully Wee kid Kyle keeps it in the family

- Murray Spooner

Barry Ferguson is keeping it in the family after signing up his son Kyle to the first team squad.

The 16 year-old will join Robbie Davidson and Michael McGinty, both 17 at The Bully Wee this season.

Midfielders Robbie and Kyle previously played together with Blantyre Boys Club, while Michael, a winger, joins from Airdrie.

The three teenagers will be part of the first team squad, but also eligible to take part with Clyde’s under-20s side.

However, Ferguson explained that his son would make his own way at the club.

Speaking to the club’s website, he said:“I was a bit reluctant to sign Kyle because of the family connection.

“But he is in on his own merit and the other coaches feel the same.

“He’ll be treated no differently to any other player.”

Ferguson added:“I have been watching all of them for a while at youth level and I know the potential that they have.

“The great thing is that they will be able to continue with their education at school and then train with us in the evenings.

“I believe it’s the right environment for them to develop and not just learn from me and the other coaches, but also the boys in the squad.

“It’ll take them a while to adapt to a first team environment but they have the potential to do that.

“I’m expecting them to be in and around the matchday squads and pushing for a starting place in six months’time.”
