Gregg’s to close Toryglen outlet

- Edel Kenealy

Gregg ’ s Bak e r y has confirmed it is closing its shop on Aikenhead Road.

But the company failed to state whether repeated flooding in the area had influenced its decision to withdraw from the Toryglen premises.

The Reformer reported last week that flooding, including over spilling sewers, were damaging three businesses which sit at the junction of Aikenhead Road and Curtis Avenue.

Two weeks ago severe thunder and lightening and heavy rain saw Aikenhead Road turn from a road to a river as water gushed down towards Gregg’s, William Hill bookmakers and Michael’s Superchippy.

It was the second flood to hit the shops in six months.

This week Gregg’s Bakery would not comment on flooding problems, stating the decision to close the shop was made as part of its continued review of its business estate.

A spokeswoman for the company said it would make every efforts to redeploy staff to other bakeries in the city.
