BARRY’S BULLY WEE EAGER FOR KICK-OFF

-

Barry Ferguson is confident his players are in the right shape as they gear up for the season ahead.

Clyde face Montrose in the first game of the SPFL League Two campaign and are favourites to win the division.

Speaking exclusively to the Reformer this week, Ferguson said he was happy with how his team played in the Betfred Cup group stages which finished at the weekend.

“We are looking forward to it,”he said.“It’s been a half decent pre-season for us so we’re ready now to kick start the league campaign.

“We’ve done all our training and all our preparation fitness wise so we’re ready for it all to start on Saturday.

“All games are difficult in our league . I’ve noticed since I’ve been in the job, even half way through the season, whoever is bottom of the table can beat the top so it’s one of those leagues where you’ve got to be prepared for every single game.”

Clyde were set to play Partick Thistle under 20’s in the Irn Bru Cup on Tuesday, before the Reformer went to print.

Ferguson’s side finished third on five points behind Kilmarnock and Greenock Morton in group H of the league cup competition.

Commenting on the campaign, the former Rangers man added:“It was good for us. We came up against two full-time clubs and that gives you a gauge in terms of fitness. They were in every single day for pre-season and we’re only in two nights a week.

“The Kilmarnock game, I was delighted with the performance but against Morton we looked a bit tired. I thought we should have won against Berwick but we won at Albion Rovers and I was delighted. So overall, it was a good work out for us.

“It’s half-way through pre-season so in terms of performances, I’m more interested in getting the fitness levels up to scratch.

“Overall I was happy and it got us games under our belts. We’ve had eight games now and everybody has got the amount of minutes that I wanted them to have out of pre-season which is good.”
