Winnie celebrates centenary

-

A Cambuslang woman celebrated her 100th birthday with her family who travelled from Australia to be with her on her special day.

Winifred ‘ Winnie’ McElroy was presented with a stunning necklace and earing set, a pearl bracelet and a cake on the Saturday before her birthday on August 7.

Winnie, who is now a widow, celebrated her day at the Kingsgate Care Home in East Kilbride by being crowned Gala Queen for the home’s Summer Fete. Activities worker Eddie Prior was on hand to do the honours.

She was accompanied by a giant teddy bear who is being donated to a children’s charity.

A spokeswoman for the home said: “Winnie had a really good day with the family who came over from Australia. She was presented with presents and a cake.”

Kingsgate would like to thank Beaverbrooks Jewellers and Goldsmiths Jewellers in East Kilbride for donating the necklace and earring set and a pearl bracelet, as birthday gifts.
