STIRLING MAKE CLYDE SUFFER

Forsyth makes up for error with leveller

-

Barry Ferguson was left frustrated after Clyde paid the penalty for switching off.

The Bully Wee looked set for victory when substitute Sean Higgins gave them a secondhalf lead.

But Ross Forsyth, who slipped up for Clyde’s opener, struck late on to earn Stirling a share of the spoils.

Ferguson said: “It is so frustrating. I thought some of the stuff we played at times was good.

“It’s a new way of playing for us, we have a lot of new players.

“I’m proud, as manager, of some of our play. But we switched off at the goal and that was a disappointment.

“Listen, I don’t think many teams will come here and gain much.

“And the fans have been great – they are behind the players which is the most important thing.”

Ferguson made one change to the starting line- up following last week’s win over Montrose, with Matt Flynn replacing Michael Oliver as Ewan McNeil moved into a central defensive role.

Sean Higgins also returned from suspension to take a slot on the bench. The first clear-cut chance of the game fell to Dylan Easton but his low shot from inside the box was well saved by Chris Smith.

At the other end John Gibson did well to come off his line and block Darren Smith’s effort.

Towards the end of the first half, Easton’s pass released Peter MacDonald but his shot was well blocked by a sliding Stirling defender. The Binos’ also had a chance before half-time as a mistake by David Gormley led to Eddie Ferns shooting wide.

As the second half got underway a direct run by Phil Johnston almost brought a Clyde goal but his cross didn’t quite reach Matt Flynn cleanly enough.

After 73 minutes a mistake by Ross Forsyth gave substitute Sean Higgins a sight of goal and the forward took advantage by excellently chipping Smith to make it 1-0.

The Bully Wee looked in control after that opening goal and Scott McLaughlin wasted a free-kick at the edge of the box before Easton just missed the target.

However, with just over 10 minutes to play Stirling got an equaliser as Forsyth made amends for his earlier error, meeting a corner to score from close range.

In injury time Ross Smith was sent off for two bookings for the home side but the match finished 1-1.

Clyde will travel to Annan Athletic (3pm kick-off) in their next League Two fixture.

Matt Flynn, who had a stint at Rutherglen Glencairn, will come up against his former side.

The 28 year old made 16 appearances for The Glens, scoring three goals before moving to Galabank in 2013 on a free transfer.
