Floral tributes have been left for a young father found dead in a caravan on a Whitlawburn estate on Friday.

Thomas McCarthy, believed to have two small children, was discovered in the caravan in the car park of Bute Tower, Cambuslang, at around 11.30am on August 19.

The cause of his death, which has left the community stunned, is not yet clear but it is understood he may have been exposed to gas.

Police say there are no suspicious circumstances surrounding the 29-yearold’s death. On Monday, dozens of floral tributes were left outside Bute Tower.

They described a loving father, brother and friend.

A note left on behalf of one of his children, Tianna, said: “Daddy, Be the brightest star in the sky so I can always see you. Love you.”

Another note read: “Thomas, to have been part of your life and have so many fond memories doesn’t make this any easier. I pray you are in peace and found that freedom.

“Look after Jack and Tianna and let us know when you are around us.”

Thomas’s sibling wrote: “Brother, I know you’ll be watching over me always. I’ll never forget you.”

His friends also signed and tied Celtic strips to the railings at Bute Tower in recognition of a football fan who loved the Glasgow side.

Paul Farrell, director of West Whitlawburn Housing Cooperative, which owns Bute Tower, said: “Thomas was very well known in West Whitlawburn and had been a tenant of a flat in Bute Tower for the past three and a half years. Many of our staff knew Thomas personally.

“The close-knit community of West Whitlawburn has been shocked and deeply saddened by this tragic event and our thoughts are with Thomas’ loved ones.

“Our concierge staff were alerted to circumstances late on Friday morning, when Thomas was found in the caravan in the car park, and acted accordingly and alerted the police.”

A spokeswoman for Police Scotland said: “Around 11.30am on Friday, August 19, 2016, the body of a 29-year-old man was discovered within a caravan that was situated in the car park of Bute Tower/ Clifton Terrace, Cambuslang.
