Cambuslang opera singer Anna Heywood has enjoyed a summer to remember after making her international debut.

Talented Anna starred in a production of The Marriage of Figero in a theatre just outside Paris earlier this month.

Her performance followed on from a stint in Italy attending a prestigious opera school in Bari.

The Glasgow University student, who turned 19 while in Paris, played the part of Cherubino in the worldfamous production.

Sporano Anna said: “It was a fantastic experience.

“Everything I am doing at the moment is another step towards getting better and growing as a performer.”

Anna had got the part through a contact at the Glyndebourne Academy, one of Britain’s leading opera schools.

She became the youngest person to be invited there last year and that has helped open doors for her as she looks to pursue a career in opera.

She has also recently been doing a course with the British Youth Opera in London.

Earlier this year, we reported she was heading to the Italian Opera School and she admits the experience lived up to expectations. “It was incredible. “Everything from the food, the weather to the culture. I was surrounded by people who just spoke Italian, which really helped my language skills.

“We had a singing coach who was fantastic and the people were just lovely.

“The course was very intense. We were working from 10am in the morning until late at night, although we got a siesta as it gets very hot.”

The course concluded with a show put on by the pupils for locals, and Anna admitted to some nerves on the night.

“All the scenes were in Italian and you are performing to an Italian audience, but they really appreciated the performance.

“We performed in an old Roman amphitheatre which was just beautiful.

“It was very daunting and a bit scary, but also very exciting.”

Anna has also signed up with When In Rome, music producers who specialise in the classical crossover genre. Work has even started on writing music for a debut album, although she reckons that is some way down the line.

In the meantime, she will continue in her studies in Italian and history next month.

She said: “It is tricky to fit everything in. I work as well, but when it is something you love doing you will always make time for it and I definitely make time for singing because it is something I adore.”

Anna has her own Facebook page where people can keep up to date with any shows. You can find her at www. facenaheywoodofficial.
