Opening win for Cambus

- Douglas Dickie

Cambuslang Rugby Club got their season of to a perfect start with a victory over Paisley.

Cambus were rarely troubled after overturning an early deficit to run out 38-20 winners away from home.

They also had to contend with the loss of Alex Dean early on, who picked up an injury.

As well as picking up four points for a win, the Coats Park side also scored a bonus point for notching up five tries.

Coach Jamie Seery was delighted with how the match panned out.

He said:“It was the start we were looking for.

“It was important, after all the hard work we put in during the summer, to get that win under our belts.

“We’ll keep taking it one game at time but hopefully we can take that form into the next game.

“It was a scrappy start and we lost our scrum half, Alex Dean, to an injury within the first 10 minutes.

“We had to bring Chad McGlame on, who is one of our new signings, and play him at scrum half which is not his normal position.

“It took another 15 minutes to find our feet but once we did we played well.

“The boys enjoyed

themselves on Saturday night and will be back im training tomorrow.”

Next up for Cambus is a first home tie of the season when Clydebank make the trip across Glasgow.

Jamie is expecting another tough game:“I think they finished third last season so they will be slightly better than Paisley.

“They won by a similar scoreline in their first game so it should be an interesting game.

“We’ll have a few more players available and that will give us some better options.”
