£25,000 reward for helping catch ATM crooks
Ruglonians who can help convict criminals installing card skimming devices in the town’s ATMs could receive a £25,000 reward.
LINK, the organisation responsible for managing thousands of cash machines across the UK, is working with independent charity Crimestoppers to offer rewards for information relating to cash machine crime.
The cash machine network is urging people to call Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111 with any information they have on fraudsters who have installed five card skimming devices in Rutherglen ATMs in the past four months.
The company issued its reward the week after a device was found attached to the TSB cash machine on Rutherglen Main Street on Thursday, August 4.
Three ATMs in Rutherglen were also targeted by fraudsters on April 4.
The Nationwide Building Society and Santander Bank were fitted with card skimming devices, along with a third ATM on Rutherglen Main Street.
The Santander ATM was reportedly fitted with a second device that covered the keypad with a replica pad on Saturday, April 22.
Graham Mott, senior LINK spokesman said: “Even something that may sound insignificant could be part of a bigger picture and prove invaluable in convicting someone involved in cash machine crime.”
LINK has made available video footage seized from criminals who had installed a hidden miniature camera at an ATM to film people entering their PIN. It can be viewed at www.link.co.uk or on YouTube at www. youtube.com/ watch?v=YVq06dLW4kc
