TWO STABBED IN DAYLIGHT STREET ATTACK

Victims still in hospital

A quiet Rutherglen community is in shock this week after two men were stabbed yards from residents’ front doors.

The men, aged 31 and 22, remain in a stable condition in hospital following the incident on Monday at the junction of Montford Avenue and Kilmorie Drive.

The men were two of four people who were seriously assaulted during a disturbance at round 3.30pm.

A 19- year- old man and 36 yearold man have since left hospital after receiving treatment.

Rob Paton, of Montford Avenue, said the stabbing happened at the end of his driveway.

But the 40 year old, who works from home, said the windows were closed so he did not hear any of the commotion.

He told the Reformer: “The crime scene guys came and were here for a while. We could see what I’m sure was blood at the corner of the street. At 1am the police were still there, blocking the entrance to Kilmorie Drive.

“I think they found evidence by the tree at the end of my garden, as they had it marked with numbers, but I didn’t see anything in particular.”

Mr Paton added: “I have lived here for eight years and I have had situations where we went on holiday and left the door unlocked and it’s been fine.

“It’s so quiet. You just don’t get that around here.”

As the incident happened at 3.30pm, just one street away from Bankhead Primary School, parents are horrified

the attack happened in broad daylight.

They are thankful Monday was a bank holiday and the children were off school.

One woman who lives nearby said: “It’s usually really busy at that time.

“I come home from work at about 3.10pm and cars are parked right up the road.

“If it was a normal school day it could have been so much worse.

“It’s really horrible and during the day it’s normally buzzing around here at that time.”

Speaking outside the school gates, another parent said: “My son is four and I pick him up at 11.45am from nursery.

“I’m terrified to hear about that. I’m shocked. I hadn’t known about it.”

A spokesman for Police Scotland said officers were pursing a positive line of inquiry yesterday, Tuesday, as the Reformer went to press.
