Don’t get involved in clown craze warn cops

- Staff reporter

Rutherglen Police are warning people not to get involved in the ‘killer clown’ craze.

Although no reports have been made in Rutherglen or Cambuslang, Inspector Jim Gillespie this week said people dressed as clowns causing distress to others could be committing a crime.

He said: “We are aware of reports of individuals dressed as clowns in some areas and there is a current trend of similar incidents on social media.

“Whilst the individuals involved in this type of activity may consider it to be harmless fun, any persons seeking to cause distress, alarm or potential harm should be aware that the police will take action.

“If anyone has any concerns they should report the matter to police.”

The craze started in the US back in August and since then several reports have emerged - ranging from the bizarre to the downright sinister.

The activities which have been reported in the media range from creepy characters frightening people in passing cars to more sinister incidents where people dressed as clowns have approached schoolchildren .
