Trial for car crash is de­layed till March

Trial for a young Ruther­glen man ac­cused of caus­ing an car crash has been de­layed un­til March.

An­thony Sil­ve­stro is charged with driv­ing a car whilst un­der the in­flu­ence of al­co­hol onto the op­po­site side of a car­riage­way and col­lid­ing with two other ve­hi­cles.

Sil­ve­stro is also al­leged to have got be­hind the wheel of what is be­lieved to be a Jaguar X-type, and driven it dan­ger­ously and in an er­ratic man­ner on the op­pos­ing side of Letherby Drive in Glas­gow be­fore col­lid­ing with ve­hi­cles in­volv­ing a male and a fe­male driver.

The 21- year- old is claimed to have failed to give way at the junction with Car­munnock Road and drove on the op­po­site side of the road at ex­ces­sive speed on March 20, 2016.

Sil­ve­stro, of Ci­ty­ford Drive, is said to have had no in­sur­ance for the ve­hi­cle, failed to stop to give his name and ad­dress and re­port the in­ci­dent at a po­lice sta­tion.

The ac­cused was also charged with dam­ag­ing the prop­erty be­long­ing to an­other by smash­ing the wind­screen of, what is un­der­stood to be a Ford Fo­cus, shout­ing, swear­ing and jump­ing on the bon­net of the car.

He was then fur­ther ac­cused of as­sault­ing a po­lice con­sta­ble, then in the ex­e­cu­tion of her duty, by kick­ing her and strug­gled vi­o­lently with her.

Sil­ve­stro pleaded not guilty to all the charges when he ap­peared at Glas­gow Sher­iff Court to stand trial on Fri­day, Septem­ber 30. But the case was ad­journed to be called again on March 10.
