Trial for car crash is delayed till March

Trial for a young Rutherglen man accused of causing an car crash has been delayed until March.

Anthony Silvestro is charged with driving a car whilst under the influence of alcohol onto the opposite side of a carriagewa­y and colliding with two other vehicles.

Silvestro is also alleged to have got behind the wheel of what is believed to be a Jaguar X-type, and driven it dangerousl­y and in an erratic manner on the opposing side of Letherby Drive in Glasgow before colliding with vehicles involving a male and a female driver.

The 21- year- old is claimed to have failed to give way at the junction with Carmunnock Road and drove on the opposite side of the road at excessive speed on March 20, 2016.

Silvestro, of Cityford Drive, is said to have had no insurance for the vehicle, failed to stop to give his name and address and report the incident at a police station.

The accused was also charged with damaging the property belonging to another by smashing the windscreen of, what is understood to be a Ford Focus, shouting, swearing and jumping on the bonnet of the car.

He was then further accused of assaulting a police constable, then in the execution of her duty, by kicking her and struggled violently with her.

Silvestro pleaded not guilty to all the charges when he appeared at Glasgow Sheriff Court to stand trial on Friday, September 30. But the case was adjourned to be called again on March 10.
