Strathaven set to Stand Out with comedy duo

- Mark Pirie

The duo behind Stand Out Comedy are hoping to make Strathaven a regular stop after finding success with their new show in Lanarkshire.

The Stand Out Comedy shows have enjoyed a successful first year and host regular nights at The Union in East Kilbride, and organisers David Hopkins and Darren Thomson are hoping to make Strathaven Town Mill a key part of their comedy run throughout 2017. The boys will be back at the Mill on the November 25 and 26 to round off 2016 which has seen the shows go from strength to strength.

The shows feature Scottish comedy award winner Keir McAllister and are to be hosted by Chris Forbes, known for his role on BBC’s hit comedy drama Scot Squad.

The debut show enjoyed a successful start as they sold out the Town Mill, with Gary Delaney, who is a regular on hit TV comedy show Mock the Week, headlining.

David Hopkins told Lanarkshire Live they have been delighted by the response so far, and hopes to see it continue with their latest run.

He said: “The first event in Strathaven back in September was extremely well received with the event selling out almost two weeks before.

“Since that event we have had a great response from the attendees with many people buying tickets for our November show the day after the last event.

“It was originally just the Saturday that we had planned but due to the demand we added the Friday night as well.”

Due to the warm response they have had so far in the town, Darren and David hope that Strathaven will become a regular destination on the Stand Out calendar, following events across Lanarkshire.

“We are planning on making this a semi-regular event in Strathaven.

“Our first 2017 event is in March and will feature a comedian who has appeared on Live at the Apollo multiple times.

“The venue is perfect for comedy and all the staff are extremely helpful in running the event so we can’t wait to go back.”

Stand Out Comedy will also be coming back to East Kilbride from January 2017 at the Arts Centre, with monthly events organised with the help of South Lanarkshire Leisure and Culture.

Tickets are priced at £16.50 or two for £25 and are available online at www.seetickets.com/go/Strathavencomedy.
