Sad goodbyes to little Cassidy

- Mark Pirie

A Castlemilk mother has paid an emotional farewell to her brave baby daughter.

One-year-old Cassidy McCrone spent her short life battling a rare form of dwarfism known as rhizomelic chondrodysplasia punctata (RCDP).

But it was a battle she tragically lost on November 17.

Her mum, Natalie, and the rest of her family paid their tributes at her funeral on Monday, November 28.

Cassidy’s coffin was taken to Linn Crematorium by white horses leading a Cinderella–styled carriage, as hundreds of mourners turned out to pay tribute.

The coffin featured images of Disney princesses and Peppa Pig after it was designed by Cassidy’s brother Dexter and sister Brooklyn.

Cassidy’s dad Chris carried in his daughter’s coffin – Natalie, Chris and the kids all placed pink roses on top.

Family and friends also wore pink on the day to celebrate the youngster’s life.

The service was led by Tony Welsh, who described the tot as a “butterfly” who was “beautiful and brought joy to everyone she touched.”

He said she was a “princess” and that her RCDP “made her even more special.”

Mr Welsh also spoke in glowing terms about the youngster’s cheeky attitude and described her as a “fighter” throughout her short life.

As the one-year-old’s coffin was lowered, music from Cassidy’s favourite programme — Peppa Pig — was played in the venue.

Following the ceremony, the family released two white doves and held a moment of silence.

Earlier this year, mum Natalie and dad Chris raised an incredible £30,000 through the ‘Cassidy’s journey’ fundraiser to send her to the USA for clinical trials.

However, the treatment had been put on hold while the American company underwent restructuring.

Speaking last week, mum Natalie said: “We see it as going to her own ball and we want it to be a happy, magical experience for her.

“She was our little princess — she was always so full of life and such a happy wee soul.”
