Rural festive family fun at museum Xmas fair

- Christmas Fair and Foal show

Beautiful donkeys, Shetland ponies, a Christmas pantomime and the chance to meet Santa are just part of the festive fun lined up by the National Museum of Rural Life when the East Kilbride attraction hosts its annual Christmas Fair and Foal Show.

The unique countryside Christmas celebration features a performance of Hopscotch Theatre’s pantomime, Santa’s Magic Window, as well as a craft fair, Christmas decoration workshops, a Museum Christmas Trail and the chance to meet some alpacas.

At the attraction’s 1950s working farm, visitors can try their hand at stock judging and pick their own ‘Best in Show’.

They can also make beautifully scented pomanders in the farmhouse kitchen and join in traditional Victorian parlour games.

The farm’s prize-winning Ayrshire cows, Aberdeen Angus cattle, Tamworth pigs, sheep, hens and Clydesdale horses will be available for families to meet and they can also explore the modern museum building housing a vast collection of farming equipment and displays telling the fascinating story of Scotland’s rural past.

Shirley Maciver, general manager at the National Museum of Rural Life, said: “This is a fantastic, feel-good event and a great way to start the build-up to the festive season.

“We’ve developed an exciting programme of activities for all the family including many traditional crafts and games and hope that as many people as possible will come along to join us in our unique Christmas celebration.”
