Kirsty impresses Scottish selectors

-

A second year pupil at Cathkin Hugh is pedalling her way to success.

Kirsty Hay took part in the Scottish Cyclo-Cross Series this month after impressing selectors.

The series is part of the Regional School of Racing (RSR) Scotland, which is the first step on the rung of the official British Cycling development pathway for elite riders.

This is the same route taken by Laura Kenny, who with four gold medals is the UK’s most successful female Olympian of all time.

Kirsty inherited her dad’s love of being on the road and became an avid cycling fan.

She has been a member of East Kilbride Road Club for several years and races regularly on the road, on mountain bikes and in cyclo-cross.

Her coaches recognise her hard work, incredible fitness and bike handling and the selectors at RSR were impressed with her results over the past year.

Guto Williams, one of Kirsty’s coaches from East Kilbride Road Club, has been delighted with her performance so far.

He said:“I am very pleased for Kirsty and, although this is just the first step on her ladder, this will be a boost to her self-confidence and the added training will propel her to greater heights as she starts her second year in the highly competitive under-14 years youth B section.”
