Supersave store’s new hours move

- Staff reporter

The shop which is the home to Cambuslang Post Office will be able to sell booze for longer.

Mohammed Shahid, who operates the Supersave at 36 Main Street, made an application to the Rutherglen and Cambuslang Licensing Board to amend the hours they could operate as an off-sales.

Previosuly, the shop could only sell alcohol from 10am until 9pm Monday to Thursday, 10am to 9.30pm on Fridays and Saturdays and 10am until 8pm on Sundays.

At a recent meeting of the board, Mr Shahid was represented by Brian McMahon, who made a submission on behalf of his client.

Several additions were also proposed for the licence, including: music may be played during and outwith the core hours, a post office to be provided with counter service in the post office and/or adjacent to the main checkout counter, amend layout to accomodate new post office and post office counter and alcohol display area to be 14.2 square metres rather than eight, which doubles the space that is available.

The plan was unanimously approved by the board.

Cambuslang Post Office moved into the Supersave store in January this year.

The move brought to an end three years of uncertainty over its future which followed the discovery of asbestos at the former office that was located inside a Scotmid store in the town.
