School extension plan
A Rutherglen primary school could receive an extension to deal with an increase in pupil numbers.
Loch Primary in Springhall needs an extra three classrooms and a general purpose space extension, according to officers.
They put this down to“sustained pupil growth in the school’s catchment area”.
The council’s budget currently has funding for feasibility work.
The information is contained in an update on the schools modernisation programme which will go to councillors today (Wednesday).
Councillors will be told the primary school population across the region has risen by an estimated three per cent since 2014.
They will also be told about a project to design and manufacture two mobile classrooms, which is currently underway.
The units will provide teaching space for schools to use while building work is undertaken or to provide time to monitor pupil trends before committing to a permanent building adaption or extension.
They are expected to be ready for August 2017.
The primary schools modernisation programme started in 2004.
To date 117 primary school projects have been completed, with around 24,600 primary pupils in new accommodation.
Projects currently going on locally include Burnside and Hallside.
