Strong perfromance as panto Mr Muscle

Show is tall order

- Jonathan Geddes

A former Stonelaw High pupil was treading the boards on a famous Glasgow ship.

Aidan Curran performed in a festive pantomime on the Tall Ship at Riverside in Glasgow.

The panto was a version of ‘Dick Whittington’ put on by City of Glasgow College, with Aidan playing the role of Mr Muscle.

The 20- year- old said: “Mr Muscle is actually quite like me. He’s silly but smart when he needs to be.

“It’s been quite challenging to create distance between the character and myself.

“I’ve always had a bit of a knack for getting into the character of someone else and I like being able to test my mental and physical abilities through acting.

“The pantomime was a family-friendly show with jokes for both adults and children and we all worked really hard to make it a great show.”

Aidan is studying HND acting and performance at the college and hopes the role is the first of many.

His performance was praised by drama lecturer Anne Macleod, who said: I’ve been really impressed with Aidan and his fellow students as they have all been incredibly motivated and imaginative.

“The students were performing three shows a day, which is great preparation for them going to work in the industry.

“Many of our graduates get their first professional jobs working with children’s theatre groups and in pantomimes so this is great experience for them.

“Performing in a pantomime requires skill, focus and energy. Actors who can successfully work a pantomime audience can manage anything.”
