School funds boosted by £5000 as fair gets the recipe just right

- Jonathan Geddes

Burnside Primary pulled a Christmas cracker recently as their festive fair raised more than £5000 for the school.

The school turned itself into a winter wonderland – and even Santa popped by on the day to speak to some youngsters who were delighted to meet him.

The day featured plenty of stalls, a Christmas bazaar for the kids, a reindeer rodeo, a beat the goalie competition and Santa’s grotto.

The ever popular Burnside Bake-Off returned and this year, for the first time, there was a Children’s Bake-Off for budding young cooks to try out their wares.

Burnside headteacher Helen McGarvey hailed the day as a big hit. She said: “It was fantastic to see the school full of festive hustle and bustle.

“Children, parents and the local community came out in force to celebrate Christmas at Burnside Primary.

“The money raised was truly incredible and will make a huge difference to all the pupils at the school.

“Thanks to everyone who came along, to the many volunteers who helped on the day and the fair team for all adding a little sparkle and tinsel to our terrific school.”

Gillian Kelly of the Christmas Fayre Team at Burnside Parent Council added: “We were absolutely delighted to see so many people come along and join in our Christmas Fayre fun.

“Loads of planning went into the event and it was wonderful to see it all come to life on the day.

“Raising over £ 5000 for the school is an incredible achievement and will help fund key pupil- focused activities.

“This year alone Burnside Parent Council have raised over £10,000 to help pay for day trips, homework diaries, Education City resources and the school panto.

“Ever y penny goes towards helping enrich the school experience for each and every pupil and we simply couldn’t do it without the continued support and generosity of the Burnside Primary community.”
