It’s absolutely tree-mendous

Lang Church festival is a great success

- Edel Kenealy

Cambuslang Parish Church was adorned with trees of all shapes and sizes at the weekend as its first ever tree festival got underway.

The festival saw a number of trees decorated by community groups and put on display in the church.

Several organisations including the Boy’s Brigade, Girls Brigade, 150 and 138 Scouts and Prince and Princess of Wales Hospice took part.

Efforts from groups within the church such as the guild, knitting group, flower group, worship group, finance team and Cambuslang Parish Church Pipe Band brought the total number of trees on display to 13.

With members of the public asked to vote for their favourite tree, it was the Girl’s Brigade advent craft tree which proved most popular.

Advent represented the Girls’ Brigade Christian background, while the craft element reflected the homemade decorations on display, which the girls spent weeks on.

Alison Thomson, of Cambuslang Parish Church, said: “The festival was very successful.

“We hoped that people would come in that don’t normally come into the church, as it was about the wider community, not just our own members, and we achieved that.

“Everyone that came along entered into the Christmas spirit and started to think about Christmas time.”

The trees are so beautiful it was decided they will remain on display in the church until Sunday.

A coffee morning, held at the church on Saturday, also saw £445 raised for the church’s pastoral care team, the group which organises social activities and outings for the over 75s.
