It was all for the very best
McColl hails super Lang for nine goals
Benburb .................. 1 Cambuslang Rgrs ... 9
Murray Spooner Cambuslang Rangers gaffer Paul McColl labelled his side the best he had worked with in his time in management after they hammered Benburb 9-1.
The Somervell Park boss was lost for words at half-time when his team bounced into the changing room having scored seven in the opening 45 minutes.
But McColl was stern with his players to keep their feet on the ground and watched on after the interval as they claimed a result he has rarely came across in junior football.
He said: “It’s not the first time we’ve scored eight goals but to score nine was brilliant. Some of their play was great to watch.
“I would agree that this is the best team I’ve worked with.
“We had a good team with Wishaw but we have some real good individuals here. I can’t recall a game I’ve been at where we’ve scored nine
“I’ve been beaten 10-1 before and I know how that felt.
“And it wasn’t as if we were playing a bad team on Saturday. Benburb are a decent side with good players. Their boy up top, Livingston, was a handful.
“They’ve beaten good teams. They won 3-0 at St Roch’s and they were unbeaten in eight games before we played them.
“They had two men sent off but I don’t think that is why we won 9-1. We were a good few goals up before the first man was sent off and the other was red carded at the end.”
Dale Simeon and Thomas Kilmartin both bagged a hat-trick in the match while two strikes from Liam Gormley and an own goal put a glossy finish on the rout.
