A recent exhibition held in the Scottish Parliament highlighted the media literacy programme Media Smart.
The programme provides free educational resources for teachers to help young people understand and think critically about the advertising they come across in their daily lives.
Giving her full support to the campaign, Ms Haughey said: “Our young people grow up in a world surrounded by advertising.
“This can be creative and inspiring but it is really important for children to be able to understand exactly what is being suggested, promised and sold.
“Media Smart provides free educational resources for schools and youth organisations which help young people to think critically about these issues.
“I would encourage local schools and youth organisations in our area to access and utilise these resources.”
More information on the programme is available on the Media Smart website at www. mediasmart. uk. com.
