Caring Xmas

Festive fair’s fun

- Edel Kenealy

People who dedicate their lives to looking after others were this week celebrated with a special Christmas Fair in Cambuslang.

Carers Caring for Carers held their fair on December 17 to mark their first Christmas in the community.

The organisation, which offers support and guidance to unpaid carers, welcomed their members, as well as the wider community into their base on Mansion Street.

Families enjoyed taking part in a host of Christmas activities and enjoyed the tombola, raffle and tea party.

A fundraiser for the group, the party raised £400.

Yvonne Debbie, treasurer of Carers Caring for Carers, thanked the many local businesses who donated prizes for the raffle.

She said: “The fair was open to everyone to come along on the day. It was really good and raised over £ 400. That will be used to cover running costs of the unit while we try to achieve charitable status in 2017.”

Explaining the o r ga n i s at i o n a l l ows carers of all ages to come together and share their experiences, Yvonne said: “The organisation was set up for carers and previous carers whose caring role may have come to an end because that person passed away. It allows them to meet people in a similar situation.

“I think it has helped them feel less isolated and let them see there are more people in the same situation as them.”

Looking to the future the organisation hopes to gain charitable status in 2017 and to increase operating hours when demand allows.

The Mansion Street premises currently opens between 10am and 2pm Monday to Friday.

More information on the organisation is available on their Facebook page.
