Daniel’s music is just what the Doch ordered

- Andrew Bargh

If you thought 2016 was a rough year, then fear not.

North Lanarkshire singer/ songwriter Daniel Docherty, fresh from his first headline tour, will be releasing his second studio EP. The 24-year-old, who lives near Shawhead, released his initial fourtrack EP earlier this year and his first music video, for his single This Holy Fire, in November. Daniel sold out four shows during a tour of Holland in the same month, before coming back to the UK to perform four more packed shows on British soil. He said: “I was blown away by the tour; it was so cool. “I’m starting to feel more established as a singer/songwriter now and people are starting to look at me the way I look at musicians I admire.

“I’m so grateful for the people who support me and come to my shows.

“Playing festivals and support tours around Europe and the UK is great but to have a headline tour, knowing people are there because they are your fans, is mental.”

Although Daniel could be forgiven for putting his feet up for a while after a hectic year, he’ll be throwing himself in 2017’s deep end.

He added: “I’m touring Germany in January in a support slot but have a headline show in Cologne.

“I’ll also be looking to get more original material out there so people who come to my gigs have more than just my EP.

“I’ll be recording that in March and releasing it in the summer, so that will mean more shows in Glasgow and elsewhere too.

“Ideally I’d like to have several more videos to go with songs on this EP as well.

“It would be great to get out to America at somepoint next year and play over there and Australia is on my list too, but I don’t think I’ll get there until 2018.

“I want to have a more solid groundwork in place and a bigger catalogue of songs before I go further afield like that.”

Sweden, Hungary and Italy are a few of the other continental countries Daniel has wowed crowds in

The self-taught guitarist has certainly come a long way from his busking origins and he hopes to keep riding the crest of this musical wave for as long as possible.

He affirmed: “I’ll keep busking a few times a week but I’m really looking forward to engaging more with fans and placing roots in more places with my new material.”

Daniel’s EP, This Holy Fire, is available on all platforms including

Tunes and Spotify.
