Rutherglen Reformer

Rutherglen is in the grip of Comic Con fever

Who is your favourite comic hero?

- Murray Spooner

Last week the Reformer revealed Rutherglen would be welcoming the South Lanarkshire Comic Con for the first time.

Batman, Iron Man and Spider-Man are all heading for the Town Hall on Saturday.

The event will feature a host of comic book dealers, guests, panels and workshops.

And with excitement building in Rutherglen this week, we decided to ask our readers who their favourite comic book character was.

Alastair Hewitt from Burnside said: “I like Green Lantern. He was creative and interesting and I like the suit he wears.

“I’m looking forward to Comic Con. I’m a big fan of comics.”

Ryan O’Raw from Cathkin also picked a superhero. “Batman,” he said. “I’ve seen and enjoyed the films.

“I thought he was just the coolest character, but I’m not sure Comic Con is for me. It’s more my brother, he’s into all that stuff.”

Ronnie Duffie of Cedar Gardens, Rutherglen, has fond memories of reading comic annuals throughout his childhood.

“My favourite was Oor Wullie,” he said. “He was a right character back in the day.

“We used to always get the Sunday Post to see what he was up to.

“I used to get The Broons annual for Christmas which was my favourite present. ”

Jean Rose from Burnside added: “Desperate Dan, that was my favourite. I just thought he was really funny, him and his cow pies.”
