Burns supper was a sell-out
Cambuslang Rotary Club celebrated Burns night on Saturday, January 21 at their sell-out Burns Supper at the Kings Park hotel.
Club President Bill Crombie chaired the event and started the evening off by calling on Ewen Hutcheon to address the haggis before the 150 Rotarians and their guests settled down to enjoy a delicious four-course meal.
The traditional Burns fayre was followed by an excellent night of speeches and entertainment.
First up was local lass Anna Heywood, who once again delighted everyone with her beautiful singing. This was the first time Anna had performed at a Burns night but, given her appreciative audience reaction, it is unlikely to be the last.
Next up was the youthful Graham Hill, who delivered a polished and informative Immortal Memory which revealed his deep knowledge of Rabbie’s life and works.
The toast to the lasses was given by Donald Reid and the reply by Mary Smith; both of whom managed to invoke plenty of laughter from their audience.
The highlight of the evening for many was the performance of Tam O’Shanter by John Belshaw, complete with an appearance by Maggie the horse.
The evening drew to a close with a few more songs from Anna and then the vote of thanks from Nigel Wunsch.
A flagship fundraiser for Cambuslang Rotary, the Burns Supper, together with the raffle, raised £1400, which will be donated to the Mercy Ships charity.
Club members would like to thank everyone who contributed to the success of the evening and helped raise such an impressive total.
