Celebrating Burns
There were no cow’rin, tim’rous beasties on the stage as Calderwood Primary pupils celebrated the national Bard.
After a great showing at this year’s prestigious Bridgeton Burns Schools Competition - which included three first prizes, six second prizes and five third prizes in a range of classes from poetry recitations, choir classes, solo singing and instrumental classes - the youngsters invited family and friends to join them in a musical celebration.
The youngsters entertained the audience with fabulous poetry performances and the strains of Auld Lang Syne brought a tear to many an eye.
Head teacher Lisa Quinn was proud of her young performers and spoke of the enjoyment Burns brings to the school community.
She said: “Calderwood Primary has a strong commitment to promoting Scots within the curriculum.
“We are very fortunate to have the opportunity to enter the Bridgeton Burns Schools Competition every session which provides the platform for the children to practise their Scots, compete against other schools and most importantly learn important works from our national Bard, Robert Burns.
“The children love entering the Burns Competition and over 70 children participated this session.
“Our Burns season came to a close with our annual Burns concert for parents. This year this was a wonderful community event where we could celebrate the achievements of all children who participated.”
