Positive thoughts can help you get ahead

The only thing that’s holding you back in life is you. The way you think affects every aspect in your life.

We all come into the world in the same way and we all have the same possibilit­ies in life.

Our beliefs about ourselves can limit everything that we do and stop us achieving our full potential.

So what thoughts are holding you back? John applies for a new job. It’s the perfect job for him and he’s excited about this new opportunit­y.

He doesn’t even get an interview. John considers this and becomes even more determined to make a change in his career.

If there’s one job that’s perfect for him then there will be others out there.

He does some research into which qualificat­ions he would need to further his career and enrols in a college night class .

John loves the course, makes new friends from the people he meets at the college, gains confidence in himself and gets the qualificat­ions that he needs.

He goes on to apply for several jobs and is successful in getting a better job than the one he originally applied for.

John feels positive, energised, motivated and happy.

James applies for a new job. It’s the perfect job for him and he’s excited about this new opportunit­y.

He doesn’t even get an interview. James is totally dishearten­ed, fed-up, depressed, and thinks he’s an idiot for even thinking that he had a chance to further his career.

He continues to work at his present job but is now putting in no effort at all because he knows that he’s“stupid”.

He starts making mistakes at work because he knows that he’s a“useless idiot”who can’t even get an interview.

Eventually James is dismissed from his job.

James feels stupid, useless, anxious, depressed, and let down by life.

What’s the difference between John and James?

They both had the same opportunit­ies but John’s thoughts were different from James’s.

James had negative, limiting thoughts and beliefs that held him back whereas John turned a negative situation into a positive one purely because he didn’t have the negative thoughts that James had.

It’s only the thoughts in our head that hold us back and shape our lives and these thoughts can be changed.
