Comic con set to return next year

Success means return

- Jonathan Geddes

The comic con that was a hit at Rutherglen Town Hall recently will return next year.

And it is going to be a two-day event.

Organisers were thrilled at the success of the convention and at the warm reception they got in the Royal Burgh.

Around 2,000 people attended the bash, which featured guests, dealers selling comics and toys and cosplay competitions.

That meant the team behind the event moved faster than a speeding bullet to book a return date.

Ian Bonar, who grew up in Farmecross, is part of the Big Glasgow Comic Page, who are behind the con.

He said: “It went fantastic this year and both the venue and I were thrilled to see 2000 Comic Book fans turn out for one day.

“We’ll be returning for a full weekend on February 3 and 4 2018 and we’ll be looking to make it bigger and better than this years.”

Colin McWilliams of Rutherglen Town Hall added: “Comic Con was a fantastic success with almost 2000 people through the doors of the town hall.

“It was fantastic to see so many of the attendees make such an effort and join in with a variety of costumes and characters and we are glad to bring Comic Con back to Rutherglen in 2018.”

This year featured guests like Judge Dredd, artist Gary Erskine and Batman and X- Men artist Frank Quitely.

A host of fans dressed up as their favourite characters on the day, including Batman, Iron Man, Spider-Man, the Ghostbusters and characters from Star Wars.
