Readers were unimpressed with South Lanarkshire Council’s response to people flouting parking restrictions on Greenless Road.

The local authority said whilst it hands out fines to those parking illegally, it does take a lenient approach around places of worship, including nearby St Columbkilles RC Church and the Minhaj-ul-Quran International. Here is what you had to say: “So religion stops you from getting a parking ticket. Religious belief does not allow you to break the law without consequence.”- Angie McKillop.

“So it’s only an obstruction if you’re an atheist? The double yellow lines are there for a reason and it has nothing to do with religion.”- Suzanne Louden

“The next time I get a ticket I’ll say I had no choice, it was time for me to pray.”- Kattrina Coyle.

“Firstly, all three vehicles in Rutherglen Reformer photograph are mounted on the pavement which is illegal, this is a matter for the Police. Religion doesn’t come it to it. Secondly, we can not discriminate against any other religions, atheists or ‘personal’reasons the public may feel important to them for parking illegally or causing an obstruction.”- Marlyn Latta Campbell.

Elsewhere people were furious at the news there are no plans to drastically change traffic measures during the Cambsuslang Road closure.

“These works should have been done either during the school holidays or during off peak traffic times. The response from the council is dismissive and full of contempt as usual.

“We can’t avoid peak times or take alternative transport because the vast majority of us are trying to get to work and can’t just ask the boss if we can rock in late for three months! So instead we’re adding hours onto our already long days, it’s a disgrace.”- Sarah Mone.

“This is going to go on until the middle of May. They need to get out there and change the sequencing on some of the lights, that would help a lot.

“Knowing it was going to happen makes no difference - people have to move around and it is not as if this is a week or two, it is months.”Elaine Nicol

“I understand people are upset, but what is the alternative?”Bill Longmuir
