Thought for the Week

-

Crazy busy, is this a phrase that is all too common in your life?

Are you so busy that your overloaded schedule causes stress or even anxiety in your life? If so, you’re certainly not alone. Many of us struggle with the busyness of everyday life, juggling jobs, homes, children, elderly parents or illness.

These things can all take their toll, and when other things are added on top of the normal routine, sometimes it all just gets too much.

In recent weeks we have celebrated a few significant birthdays in our families, involving parties, weekends away, and dinners out or having friends round.

Our oldest child is also getting married in a few months and there is so much to plan and things that just pop into the already bursting mind at any time.

Although these are all things to be joyful about, they are not without their stressful moments.

Being crazy busy can prevent us from actually enjoying the special times in our lives and can take away from the quiet times to relax and reflect on our day, week or indeed year.

When we’re too busy it may be for a variety of different reasons, perhaps pleasing others, or thinking that no-one else can do something as well as we can.

Working too hard to buy things we think we need, or indeed deserve.

Maybe we could take some time out to reflect on all that we do and to discern what really are the important things in life?

If we diary in some time every day to relax, perhaps by reading a book, listening to some music, focussing on some relaxation, praying or reading our bibles, it may be that in those moments we can find some true peace and a renewal of our minds. Alison Kennedy Flemington Hallside Church
