Rutherglen Reformer

Addicts group to benefit again

- Douglas Dickie

An addiction group with members from Rutherglen and Castlemilk could be set to benefit once again through their relationship with the makers of Trainspotting.

Davie Mains, from Burnside, is director of Calton Athletic Recovery Group, and will be at Mulberry Bank Auctions this Saturday when props from Trainspotting 2 go under the hammer.

Half the money raised will go to Calton Athletic, who first got involved with director Danny Boyle over two decades ago when the first move was being made.

Davie even had a small role in the original, while other members of the group were involved in the second.

One of those was John Ferns from Castlemilk and he told the Reformer the help they receive from the movie has been invaluable.

He said:“Trainspotting has been supporting us for the last 20 years.

“Without the help from Danny Boyle, Andrew McDonald, John Hodge and Irvine Welsh over the past two decades we would have really struggled. Their financial help and backing has been invaluable to us.”

Everything from furniture to clothes will be on offer when the auction takes place this Saturday, March 25 at 10am.

Mulberry Bank can be found at 15 Kelvin Avenue in Hillington.

The other half of the money will go to The Junction, an Edinburgh based young person’s charity of which Irvine Welsh is the patron
