LutherVandross tribute in town

- Jonathan Geddes

A tribute to one of the greatest singers of all time will be coming to Rutherglen Town Hall later this year.

The Luther Vandross Experience will recreate the distinctive sound and voice of the man who enjoyed hits with the likes of Never Too Much, Any Love, I Can Make It Better and For You To Love.

It will be at the Town Hall on Thursday, September 14, with Danny Clay replicating Luther’s voice.

Danny had been struggling with drug problems and had spent 13 years in prison, a time in which he taught himself to sing, particularly material by Luther Vandross.

Ironically, he was released from jail on July 2005, the same day that Luther Vandross passed away.

Shortly after being released from jail, Danny called into the Steve Harvey radio show in America and performed a medley of Luther songs, blowing away those listening.

He so impressed the American entertainer that he was asked to join him at a live theatre show in New Jersey, where he found himself performing before thousands of people.

At another show he found himself joined by the actor and comedian Chris Rock, and since then he has made a career out of sounding exactly like Luther Vandross.

Now his new show will come to Rutherglen, with a set based around the singer’s gigs at Wembley Stadium.

Tickets are on sale now, priced at £15.

They can be purchased at www.sllcboxoffice. co.uk, by calling 0141 613 5700 or by popping into the venue in person.

The show will start at 7.30pm.
