R:evolve to move into new Cambuslang store

Project gets big boost

- Douglas Dickie

R: evolve Recycle will move into their new, cashless, Cambuslang shop at the end of this month.

The hugely popular project will officially open on Friday, March 31 at 166 Cambuslang Main Street.

With successful boutiques already open in Rutherglen and Hamilton, they will be hoping for the same level of success when they move from their temporary base in Halfway.

R:evolve Recycle, which is part of the Lightburn Elderly Association Project, aim to cut C02 emissions and waste through ‘upcycling’ and recycling old clothes and textiles, allowing members of the public to trade in their old clothes for points to be used on other items in store.

Keeping in line with their environmentally friendly policy, the new shop is made from reclaimed and upcycled materials.

Volunteers Eddie Maxwell, Norrie Mason, Niall Russell, and Dougie Chambers carried out the work.

Wendy Russell, sustainability development manager for the project, said: “We are so excited to open our new store on Cambuslang Main Street.

“Given the demand and increase in members we’ve seen over the past year, it was only right to move to this prime location on Cambuslang Main Street.

“All the staff and volunteers can’t wait to open the new shop in Cambuslang and look forward to seeing even more growth given our recent funding award from the government’s Climate Challenge Fund.”

R:evolve Recycle have swapped over 11.6 tonnes of clothing this year. The swap shop now has 2394 members who use the service.

The group now hope to expand further across South Lanarkshire in 2017.

Wendy added: “If anyone is interested in volunteering in customer service, workshop facilitation or clothes sorting roles they can register their interest by contacting Anne-Marie Clements at anne-marie@leap-project.co.uk.

“You can follow R:evolve Recycle on Facebook, Twitter and Instagram.”

The new shop will be open Monday to Friday, 10am-4pm.
