Clyde turn it around after the interval

- Murray Spooner

Clyde picked up their first league win since November to ease their relegation fears.

It was also the first three points for the club under the leadership of new interimmanagement duo Jon-Paul McGovern and Peter MacDonald. But they were made to work hard for their victory.

Lewis Allan slotted home the game’s opening goal in a poor first-half display for The Bully Wee.

A stern team talk at half-time seemed to re-energise the players and Clyde fought back in the second 45 minutes.

Former Rutherglen Glencairn midfielder Matt Flynn bagged himself a goal on 51 minutes with a free-kick before joint player-manager MacDonald poked home from close range when visiting keeper Andrew Stobie dropped a cross in the box.

At the other end, Quinn pulled off a good save to deny Allan but on 77 minutes MacDonald struck again after great link-up play by David Gormley and Scott Ferguson.

McGovern was delighted to get his first win as a manager and also revealed a halftime rollicking had gave the players a boost.

“We just pointed out ever so calmly what we were doing wrong,” he said.

“We posed a few questions to the boys and asked them if we can do better. We asked what was wrong with us and talked it through. We had a go at a few players and we got the right response and the right reaction in the second half.

“We’re not going to get carried away. I think all of us know we have under achieved. We’ve got to enjoy the win.”

Clyde were due to play Cowdenbeath before the Reformer went to print on Tuesday evening.
