A Croftfoot youngster has defeated a world champion in Muay Thai fighting.

Reece McLachlan overcame Kent’s Logan Grant at the Rama Muay Thai show at On-X arena in Paisley last month.

The 10-year-old, who attends John Paul II Primary School in Castlemilk , showed great spirit to win the -30kg bout in a one-off showdown.

Proud dad Keith could not have been happier with Reece’s performance. “He was absolutely brilliant,”he said. “I think that is the best he has fought in a long, long time.

“It was a hard fight for him but Reece did very well.

“In my opinion he won every round but the judges had it down as a close contest.

“It was just a one-off fight in Paisley but he’s had over 40 so far and that’s one of the best I’ve seen him in.”

Reece was one of five Griphouse Gym members to take to the ring on February 25 in the event and was the only junior to represent them.

His older bother Corey recently claimed a coveted European Muay Thai title by overcoming a French opponent.

Dad Keith has also announced his next fight.

The 37-year-old is set to face Issac Araya in Newcastle on Saturday, April 8.

It could be one of the world champion’s final fights in the sport after revealing he wants to concentrate on coaching.
