Pupils should be an inspiration to us all
If children really are the future, then Rutherglen and Cambuslang truly are in good hands.
It seems there isn’t a week goes by without us carrying a story about school pupils in the area doing something remarkable.
Whether it is running food drives to help those in poverty or achieving remarkable things academically, we truly have a wonderful crop of youngsters.
Thankfully, this week is no different.
The Reformer has covered Stonelaw’s links with the Ikusasalethu High School in South Africa.
Over the years, local pupils have helped support those children who are not able to benefit from the same advantages we often take for granted.
This year four pupils from Stonelaw visited Ikusasalethu and you can read their story on pages 38 and 39.
The pupils come across as incredibly mature, humble and compassionate as they describe their time in South Africa.
Interestingly they speak of their reliance on technology and it is certainly a complaint from older generations that teenagers spend their time with their heads stuck in the their mobile phones.
Elsewhere the news agenda in Scotland has been dominated by the prospect of a second independence referendum.
We know what the political parties think, but we’ve spoken to some of those ordinary people who took to the polls the last time . You can read what they had to say below in our weekly vox and on page nine you can find out if those who campaigned last time will get involved again.
Finally, a quick note to say happy Mother’s Day when it arrives to all the mum’s in the Reformer area. Oh, and don’t forget to put your clocks forward folks!
