Mistakes are costing Lang

But boss is sure they’ll get back on track

- Murray Spooner

Paul McColl admitted Cambuslang Rangers must cut out the mistakes if they are to hold on to their lead at the top of the Central District First Division.

The Somervell Park boss watched on in frustration as his battling Lang side failed time and time again to break through a stubborn Wishaw defence.

Despite dominating the majority of the game, first-half goals from Yami Misanjo and KB Grant were enough for the Wishy boys to steal three points at the home of the league leaders in a 2-1 win.

Midfielder Hal Bohme struck a consolation five minutes from time after a relentless flurry of chances went a-begging thanks to some good goalkeeping and wasted opportunities in the final third.

McColl said: “It’s obviously a loss against one of the teams up round about us. We hoped to get a win but two mistakes gave them two goals.

“It was bad mistakes from our defence who have actually been playing pretty well.

“The second one is slightly unfortunate. The centre-half made a slight mistake, he’s banged into someone else before the boy has put it in. But they were two great finishes to be fair to them. And after that we battered them in the second half but we haven’t been playing well enough just now.

“I don’t think it was a game we should have lost. We had more than enough chances again, it’s just unfortunate there is a few guys off form.

“We are still up there and to be fair the boys have been brilliant all year. I think every team has a bad bit of form and hopefully ours is out the way and we’ll get a win on Saturday.”

The Lang have now won only once in the last five matches and the teams below them in the table are starting to gain ground.

St Roch’s and Larkhall both picked up three points on Saturday to mount the pressure on McColl’s men.

But the Lang gaffer is still taking positives out of his side’s situation and knows that as both their title rivals face each other this weekend, his team will have the chance to gain a good foothold in the league title race once more with a win over Vale of Clyde.

The manager said: “With St Roch’s playing Larkhall, something has got to give and someone will drop points.

“There have been freak results so far. Wishaw were beaten the other week by Benburb and Forth beat St Roch’s so there are teams capable of beating the top teams.

“I think we’ve done pretty well considering we just came up last year. And we are still up there by April which we would have easily taken at the start of the season. I think there would be a few teams who would love to be in that position.

“I’m not going to be too harsh on the boys because they have done well.

“I think because we have been winning constantly, people have just been expecting us to batter everybody but it doesn’t work that way. There are a lot of decent teams in the league.

“It isn’t as if teams have rattled three or four goals against us. If we can cut out the mistakes I’m sure we will be fine.”

McColl insisted the bad run of form has not killed their season but knows another couple of bad results in the next few weeks could derail their title bid or even promotion chances.

He aims to get back on track at home to Vale of Clyde this weekend.

Ian Currie’s side travel to Somervell on the back of a 5-0 hammering from Larkhall.

However, the Fullarton-based club have been a sticky opposition for teams in the Central First this season and have taken the scalp of the likes of St Roch’s and Lesmahagow recently.

Jamie McLeod is expected to make a return to the squad for Saturday following work commitments abroad.

I’m not going to be too hard on the boys because they have done well. If we cut out the mistakes we’ll be fine. Paul McColl
