Wishaw defence too tight

- Murray Spooner

Cambuslang’s poor run of form continued as a sturdy Wishaw defence kept a ferocious Lang attack at bay.

Paul McColl made key changes by adding Alessandro Savarese and new signing John Gemmell to the starting line-up following last week’s defeat.

The hosts controlled the early stages and Liam Gormley went close from range but the keeper saved well.

Good passing play from the Wishy midfield led to them carving open the Lang defence. Joe McCafferty lifted the ball over the top to Yami Misanjo who managed to lay the ball back for KB Grant and he volleyed straight down the throat of Iain Stewart.

On 22 minutes the visitors took the lead by playing the ball out from the back. McCafferty played a deep pass straight through the Cambuslang defence which trundled beyond Callum Nolan and Misonjo slotted home.

The Lang responded well and John Gemmell headed against the bar.

But Nolan gave the ball away in midfield which led to Wishaw’s second of the game. His pass was cut out by Misonjo and Grant was able to pull away from his marker to score.

Cambuslang came out of the traps quickly in the second half but struggled to find a breakthrough. Simeon’s strike from the left was gathered while sub Kilmartin came on and was denied by a last-ditch challenge when in on goal.

They finally scored from the resultant corner kick as the ball found its way through a crowd of players to Hal Bohme who tucked the ball away at the back post. Simeon hit the side netting in the last chance of the game.
