What just tickles the locals’ funnybones?

We ask for their favourite comedians

- Jonathan Geddes

April Fool’s Day is this Saturday, and plenty of people will either be looking forward to it or dreading it, depending on their sense of humour.

The Glasgow Comedy Festival has also just taken place, bringing a host of funnymen and women to Scotland.

We wanted to find out what made Reformer readers laugh, so headed out to Burnside to quiz residents there on their favourite comedians and jokes.

Louise Doyle said: My wee brother’s birthday is on April Fool’s Day, so we never did jokes on it.

“I like Kevin Bridges a lot, I’ve seen him on the telly a lot and he’s always really good.”

Alastair Rioch said: “Kevin Bridges is very good, he’s got that Glasgow patter and obviously Billy Connolly is always very funny.

“Although I think the biggest trick of the lot is what Nicola Sturgeon is doing at the moment!”

Robin Harrison said: “It’s comedians like Peter Kay and Lee Evans that I like, they’re the ones that spring to mind the most.

“Peter Kay’s characters are quite realistic, so you can relate to the sense of humour really.”

Elizabeth Murray had a joke of her own to tell us.

She said: “I like Bradley Walsh, he always makes me laugh on things like The Chase.

“I heard a good one the other day too – there’s a foreigner who came over here, married a woman and had a family but never worked a day in his life. They were going to deport him, but the Queen said ‘but that’s my husband!’”
