Rutherglen Reformer

YOU SAID IT

-

The Reformer took to the streets of Burnside on Thursday hours after RBS confirmed it was closing the village’s branch.

Everyone was shocked upon hearing the news, particularly older people of the community who have become dependent on the branch and its staff for everyday financial tasks.

Anne Marie Masterton said:“I just saw a couple in there and staff have just called them a taxi home. They don’t have great mobility and the staff are brilliant with older people like that.

“The lady that lived next to me, she didn’t have great mobility, she used to get a taxi down as well.

“It will be a huge loss and I’m really surprised as it’s always so busy.”

Merchant seaman, Captain Richard Currie said:“It definitely would be a loss. I use the branch regularly, this week I have used it twice.

“The only option after this is to go into Rutherglen and park there.

“I wouldn’t change my bank, but it will be a big inconvenience.”

Steven Bell said:“It’s an inconvenience. All these branches are closing everywhere.

“I always used to go into the Clydesdale branch in Cambuslang but they closed that as well. RBS would definitely be a loss to older people, I have started doing more online, but for older people like my mum who lives in Cambuslang, it has a massive impact on them.”
