Speed gun to be used on relief road
Rutherglen police say they will call on their colleagues to deploy the speed gun on the recently completed Cathkin Relief Road.
The issue of speeding on the road was raised by Rutherglen community councillors weeks after their Burnside counterparts said motorists were not keeping to the 30mph speed limit.
Jim Bolton, secretary of the community council, said: “Congratulations to South Lanarkshire Council for finishing the Cathkin Relief Road but there is lot of speeding on the road.
“Because it is a wide aspect trying to keep to 30 mph is quite difficult.”
Officers at the meeting said they would raise residents’ concerns with the traffic department.
One officer said: “They can use the speed gun, that’s the biggest deterrent, that get’s people’s attention.
“If there is something specific like this, it can encourage the traffic cops to come over.”
Issues with speeding on Cathkin Relief Road were raised immediately after it opened on February 24.
